Symptoms – Bloating and Abdominal Discomfort

During their lives, many women experience some type of bloating and abdominal discomfort. At times, the abdomen may even noticeably swell and distend, increasing the uncomfortable feelings. Though bloating and abdominal discomfort could be normal in some cases, they can also be a signs of various gynecologic issues or medical disorders.

You could have several symptoms with bloating and abdominal discomfort. Besides obvious bloating, you could experience excessive gas that leads to fluctuation, burping, or belching, all of which can be embarrassing. You may find you are unable to wear certain clothes as they accentuate your swollen abdomen or feel tight and uncomfortable. You could also experience pelvic pain and pressure.

There are several non-gynecologic reasons for bloating and abdominal discomfort, the most common being diet issues: eating too fast, overindulging, or meals high in fat or sodium. Other reasons include liver disease, diverticulitis, Crohn’s disease, and pancreatic, colon, or stomach cancers.
